The following is an excerpt taken from Security Journal Magazine.

"The world is becoming a more dangerous place for businesses to operate in. As we look into the future and anticipate the 2025 global threat landscape, the following are the main areas to focus on:

Corporate and Executive Risk

In 2025, corporate and executive risk will be heightened, despite a decrease in national violent crime rates for the U.S. during 2024. After the public assassination of the UnitedHealthcare CEO in New York City, existentialist anti-capitalist and anti-establishment sentiment exploded in the online sphere.

This is especially concerning because the internet is where most domestic violent extremists are radicalized today. Additionally, the danger posed to employees and executives abroad by hostile governments, who utilize arbitrary detention to pressure their corporate partners into fulfilling regime demands, was highlighted this year globally by multiple authoritarian administrations.

Executives of industries tied to the Western military-industrial complex are also likely to remain the target of hybrid warfare from foreign adversaries through assassination plots. Businesses should reassess their security protocols to ensure there are no gaps and exercise caution when in unfamiliar environments or at high-profile public events.

Cold War 2.0

With the U.S. and its allies on one side and China/Russia/Iran/North Korea on the other, a new Cold War has emerged, with Western businesses and employees at significantly enhanced risk from proxy attacks, cyber warfare, and political detainments abroad.

This is a critical concern for Western corporations. Enhanced travel risk management for employees will be key as we enter 2025 and this evolving risk landscape.

Natural Disasters

2024 saw countless natural disasters across the globe from earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and landslides, killing thousands and the associated estimated economic costs of these disasters costing over two hundred billion. Sadly, we should see more of the same in 2025. Due to this, organizations need to continue to focus on emergency preparedness and business resiliency.

Terrorism

With some of the terrorist attacks we have seen in December 2025 in Europe and the U.S. by ISIS-inspired individuals, and also the recent fall of the Assad regime in Syria, which could create fertile ground for terrorists to operate from, it is highly likely that we will see a resurgence of global terror and groups like ISIS being strengthened and emboldened to conduct attacks in 2025.

From my experiences over the last 25 years supporting clients around the globe, I have found that most organizations are frankly overconfident and underprepared to manage major risks and their business resiliency.

This is critical for organizations to take risk-based approaches to navigating the diverse 2025 global threat landscape and deploy appropriate security frameworks to keep their employees safe and organizations resilient in 2025."
